Introduction
After launching your new site everyone has one common goal and that is to get ranked in Google's search results. The activity of achieving this goal is called as SEO i.e. Search Engine Optimization. SEO is not a single day's task. You can't expect result of in a single day. Like any computer program you will not get result of SEO immediately i.e. your site will not be listed in search results immediately after launching the site. The reason is simple; unlike Google which creates and stores list of sites it crawls in it's database, directories are maintained manually.

Directory submission
Directories are generally divided into some categories. You need to careful while submitting site to these directories because if you choose a wrong category, your site will not be submitted. When you submit your site to any directory( see the list of top directories), your submission will be reviewed by human being to check if the site suits the category, if the content of site is OK or not, if the site contains any objectionable content etc. This process of reviewing the site takes long time and hence the directory submission is a slow process( I am talking about free submission only). For beginning SEO, directory submission is the best choice.

Inbound links
Search engine like Google uses Open Directory . Search engine generally crawls these web directory first and then crawls through the submitted sites and then follow the links in our site. But this overall process might take some time. This happens all due to inbound links to our website from the directory. So we can conclude that the directory submission is vital for getting inbound links. Some other options of getting inbound links are posting to forums, blogging, and through social networking sites.
