Now days Google's Engineer are busy, but not in Programming. They are busy in measuring electricity consumption at their home and finding the ways to reduce this consumption with their latest innovation- The Google Power Meter. The Google Power Meter is tool or a gadget which shows the consumption of electricity at your home by using the smart meter at our home. Currently the tool is in beta mode and the testing is limited only to the limited number of customers of the Partners of the Google in this project. Reliance Energy is the only Indian company who is Utility partner with Google. Good to see two giants from different countries are together in a noble project.
To enable the gadget of Power Meter you have buy a Google PowerMeter enabled in-home energy monitoring device and configure it with your account. The Gadget of Power Meter when added to your iGoogle page shows a graph of usage of electricity for day, week or month. The gadget gives you the values of measure of electricity in KW and gives you valuable comparisons.
As I mentioned above, Reliance Energy is the only Indian company which is the utility partner with Google Power Meter. Reliance is providing the electricity only to the metro city like Delhi, Mumbai.. So the taste of this free Google product will be permanently limited to limited number of users as the major electricity providers are not associated in this project( I am doubtful if they know this innovation) .
A country where akoda system( putting a cable on the supply lines) is used without any fear and most of the electric measuring devices are stopped, will have to dream for this gadget and will have to satisfy with the screen shots of the tool. Interestingly, a country where load shedding is the main issue, who will mind about such innovations there...
