Javascript menu and SEO

As you know I always admire SEO people for their superior job in optimization. But, I observed that people who claim to be SEO expert in India have only theoritical knowledge and not a practical knowledge. This is because we Indian scare to experiment and show lazyness in inventing new things and put them before the world. My statement has evidences, if you search for SEO blogs from India you would find that most of the blogs starts with the definition of the SEO and it's related terms.(why?)

Lets start discussing the heading of this post. I saw many SEO expert optimizaing the sites containing Javascript menu knowing that they are not SEO friendly. We know that many people keep the javascript turn off on their browsers. In such cases if we rely on only the dropdowns then our site will start losing the visitors. I wonder, why these SEO guys dont insist on the direct links. Javascript is actually a client side language and not searchable by the search engines...
